Around the World Speaker Series – Tokyo

4:52 pm

Elicia and my conversation was recorded by the ABC and screened on Big Ideas.

Tomorrow I’m excited to be talking at the Museum of Sydney about one of my passions – Japan!

The talk is part of an ongoing series that revolve around the current exhibition of the wildly successful blog 52 Suburbs by photographer Louise Hawson.

I’ll be in conversation with Elicia O’Reilly from the Japan Foundation. Our topic is Tokyo with a particular focus on how the culture has influenced and inspired aspects of my creative practice. I’ll also be bringing some pieces of work and found Japanese treasures to share with the audience afterwards.

The 40 minute talk kicks off at 2pm so if you’re down at the harbour near Circular Quay checking out the huge naval regatta I hope you can pop in. See you there!

IdN magazine: Paper Special

6:05 pm

Absolutely stoked to be included in the latest IdN magazine!
The ‘Paper Special’ is focused on some of the best international paper creatives and I’m in there with some real talents from round the globe.

When I was at college, IdN was far and away the ultimate. Over the moon to have been included within its pages.
There are some digital spreads online HERE. And a ‘Creator’s Profile’ HERE.
Otherwise, run out and grab a copy.

National Breast Cancer Foundation

2:35 pm

I haven’t I posted anything new up here since I returned from Seoul and Tokyo months ago but I’ve been quietly busy behind the scenes.

One of my latest projects has been a series of portraits for the National Breast Cancer Foundation to help them launch this years Pink Ribbon Breakfast.

I worked in conjunction with Marlin Communications to create six portraits of women who have all suffered from breast cancer. Sadly, the statistics are one in six women will not survive beyond five years after treatment which makes the work and support of NBCF so essential. To read the stories of these brave women, follow the link HERE.

World Pop Up Exhibition in Seoul

4:24 am

This morning I fly out to South Korea – super exciting! It seems 2013 is all about Asia for Paperform.
Alongside a host of talented international paper engineers, I have been invited to exhibit my work in Seoul as part of the World Pop Up Art Exhibition to be held at Art Centre IDA.

On display will be the whole gamut of my pop-up creations over the years including my recent collab with Google AUS which has just been released. So much preparation has gone into getting ready for the show. Amazingly, the curators are reconstructing the ginormous pop-up set I designed for Romance Was Born. Can’t wait to see that in action again!
To top it all off, my paper mask creation ‘FUTURE // PAST’ was chosen as the poster for the event which is a great honour.

DFAT has put a post about the show on their website HERE.

After a week in Seoul I’m off to Japan for a well earned break. More soon…

1:05 pm

The April issue of desktop Magazine has just landed in my letterbox and it looks like a sharp edition.
I was asked to create imagery to accompany Clinton Duncan’s article – I took this as my chance to finally collaborate with my super talented photographer friend Anna Pogossova.
You have to check her work out! Below is what we came up with.

Lee Tran also uploaded some extra images on their blog that didn’t make it in HERE. Thanks guys!

Graphika Manila

6:56 am

I’m leaving Sydney this morning to travel to the Philippines as an invited speaker at Graphika Manila design conference which is being held this weekend.
Can’t wait to share my work and meet the the design savvy punters from that part of the world. Looking forward to a few days of travel away from my desk – I’ve been working nonstop all summer on an exciting creation for Google – but more on that shortly.
I’ll report back with some images of my adventures. Manila here I come!

New Platonic images

8:51 am

My recent show New Platonic has just come down from the gallery wall so I thought I would get at least some of it up here to share.
Quite a few more of the works have yet to be photographed and I’ll get to documenting this in the way it deserves shortly with dimensions/materials etc.

My starting point of exploration for this body of work was the Platonic Solids and the whole premise of the show revolved around the use of paper only – no glue!
This project has opened up a door into a whole new world of exploration for me which is really exciting.

In the meantime, check out my mates Tanja’s post on the opening night. Enjoy!
